6 steps to a summer ready home

Alas the warmers days that seemed so infinitely far away are now upon us. While stocking my wardrobe full of swimsuits, skirts + sandals is top of mind, so is filling my home with festive summer decor. In light of this, I’m here today to share six easy ways to capture the brightness of the season right in your own home.

1. Clear the Clutter

Definitely my least favorite step, but the most important nonetheless. I typically pack away winter throws + heavy blankets in a trunk fashioned at the end of my bed. Next, I transition-out thick winter outerwear from the coat closet to make room for beach towels, sandals + other summer necessities. I tackle my clothes closet last, clearing away chunky-knit sweaters to make space for lighter pieces in a game of keep, donate or save.

2. Clean Your Space

Before bringing in new summer décor, I do a clean sweep of my place. I crank the Pandora + scrub, dust, or sweep any surface I see. I recently started using these essential oil cleaning products. They smell fabulous + better yet, they are made with all natural ingredients in a selection of fresh scents. Definitely a win/win in my book!

3. Make Scents

I LOVE candles just about any time, but summer is an exception to this. For the few short seasonal months, I swap in oil diffusers, which give off the fragrance I love, without adding to the summer swelter. Not to mention they incorporate well into a decorative table tray or mantel.

4. Bring on the Brights

My living space is almost entirely white. Therefore, for the warmer months, I love to accessorize with pops of color via a furniture accent or, my favorite, throw pillows. Target or TJ MAX are always my go-to for these, with a wide selection of festive + fun prints without the hefty price tag. A little goes a long way with these additions, so choose carefully!

5. Invest in a Staple

Someday I’ll furniture an apartment in the beauty that is west elm or Restoration Hardware. For now, I stick to one splurge at a time, whether it’s a printed ottoman, or eye-catching tray {my pick last year} a high-quality furniture piece can easily transition a space. Not in the budget? Search a favorite brand on Craigslist + enjoy the thrill of the hunt!

6. Just Add Flowers

A girl’s best friend {in my opinion, anyways!} I constantly keep a fresh stock of these on my coffee table, bathroom, or windowsill. Mason Jars or colorful vases make the perfect complement to bright arrangements, adding even more character to the display. Trader Joe’s is my favorite stop for fresh florals, with a wide array of options at a great price point.
