{I had every intent of doing a lately post last week, but I just couldn’t find the motivation to do it. After waking up Monday in the front lines of another national disaster, it was difficult to speak to more lighthearted topics around here. In the days to follow, I would see volunteers sign-ups soar to capacity, and donations flood to the point of having to be turned away. While there’s still so much to be rebuilt, these acts of kindness only serve as a sweet reminder that no event is too damaging to destroy the resilience of the human spirit. If you’re looking for ways to assist those affected by the northern California fires, please consider taking a look here.}

After a few days of playing tourist with a visiting college friend, i’m headed back to my old stomping grounds — Chicago. This spontaneous trip home couldn’t have come at a better time, and i’m very much looking forward to soaking in some time with family and friends. While I expect my visit to the Windy City to be fairly jam-packed, there’s something so calming and refreshing about returning home for a few days. I can’t wait to get there.

Before I leave, I thought it’d be fitting to leave you with some things that have served as a source of comfort during these eventful past few days. As they say, sometimes it’s the little things that can turn around an entire day around, and everything on this list certainly rings true to that.

Cheers to a happy + healthy week!
